Hand: Veggie Dishtowel Details

This is one thing the Flickr to Blogger can't do: post multiple pictures! I wanted to show the details of each of these little guys (and gals). All from the Sublime Stitching "I Luv Veggies" pattern.

Tasty Garlic

One Happy Carrot

Sultry Tomato
(though gothpanda on Flickr thinks she looks constipated!)

Confused Orange

Old Man Lemon

Happy Apple

I'm trying out the whole Flickr to Blogger function here, so bear with me if this post looks bad. Or you've seen three different versions of it.

I finished this towel a while ago, but I haven't had a chance to upload the photos to share. I made it using the Sublime Stitching "I Luv Veggies" pattern. I have fruit on the other side, too, but the veggies were my favorite.

I'm rather proud of this one. I tried something a little different. It was all backstitching, but I did two layers of three-count threads in different hues of the same color. It added a little depth and texture, which was neat for the veggies. I'm especially proud of the garlic, which I feel has a nice, papery look to it, like real garlic.

Someday, I may post a picture of the awesome impression my husband does of the happy carrot.
Hmm...not sure I'm digging the Flickr transfer. It may take a little getting used to. It's nice to not have to upload, I must say!

Hand: Living Room Gallery

Birthday Suits

Exactly a year ago today, I hung these paintings on my living room wall. It was a birthday present to myself. Not because they were a gift, per say, but because I had created them...finishing the series of four I had conceptualized more than two years before.

It was the first time I'd finished a genuine series of paintings.

I've since taken an involved painting class and completed many more, but these are special, and still hang on my wall (though my living room looks no where near as spiffy clean).

Please ignore the TV antenna in the detail picture.

It began with the heart, and finished with the diamond. A metaphorical way to sum up the year. Since then, there have been flowers, trees, cakes and a beating heart (of the human variety) committed to canvas in acrylic, with varying levels of success and commendation. I don't know exactly what that means for the last year, except that it was very, very full.

As I hope the next one will be.

Hand: Monkey!

Monkey with 'naners

I finished this a while ago, but have been a little shy about sharing. It's just a Sublime Stitching pattern on a little square of plain cotton, but it represents my first real foray into needlework outside of a stitch-by-numbers kit.

I'm especially proud of the spots on the 'nanners. You can see more details on my Flickr page.

This is the first square for a quilt I'm collaborating on with my Mama, a sort of "count by bananas" thing for an as-yet-undetermined wee one...

Eye: Sculpture at SFSU

"Solid Silence"

Clustered together tightly, an invisible warmth hummed under the bound stones hours after the spring rains ceased. No longer just cold ore and accidental geometry, the rocks had new purpose, a greater meaning in their placement between the concrete walls.

They were alive, as alive as stones could be, beauty and meaning infused in their granite skin like rebar tattoos. They were art.

Quietly absorbed, quietly forgotten.
